Welcome to the Transportation-Public Health Leadership Program

Each year, over 40,000 lives are lost on U.S. roads, highlighting the urgent need for change. Many of these incidents are preventable, and transportation professionals are leading efforts to adopt new and effective strategies that save lives. One of the most promising approaches involves integrating proven public health practices into transportation safety programs.

The Transportation-Public Health Leadership Program, developed by the University of North Carolina’s Injury Prevention Research Center and Highway Safety Research Center, provides professionals with the tools, resources, and training needed to embed public health principles into their work. Through this program, participants learn to embrace more holistic, interdisciplinary methods that not only address immediate safety concerns but also foster a long-term culture of traffic safety and health.
